Watched "New Girl" last night. That show's running out of steam. I guess there's only so much you can do with a famous actress and her three roommates. Kinda like me and my three daily guest characters. Okay, no, that's not like that at all. We are a tightly run ship here! Except for the tight part, and the ship part, and the running. We're kinda like a loose cork floating in a puddle. Wondrous.

Basil got his shots today. Now he's all set for the rest of the year. I don't have to worry about it for 365 days. Poor guy. He's sleeping away after all his excitement. He had to don a muzzle since he was a bit put off by the veterinarian staff. Oh well, now he's muzzle free till 2014.

While listening to Living Color's late 80's song "Cult of Personality" I remembered a roommate I had who made me dislike Republicans. Up till then, I was almost G.O.P.-like then one of the guys in our 4 person flat convinced me maybe this was not my political affiliation after all. He was into Don Henley, He was nice to talk to. But every once in a while he pulled out some racist or sexist remark. It made my jaw drop. Oh, and he kinda looked like Paul Ryan. The other 2 roommates hated him. I have no idea whatever became of him. Maybe it was Paul Ryan. Wait, no, he's not old enough. Never mind. Thanks Living Color!

Living in podCastro Valley you get a sense of some of our oddities: that we're one of the biggest unincorporated cities in California, that we have over 60,000 people living here, and that we have a bizarre hang-up on signs. We had a city welcome sign built over ten years ago that ended up being rejected by the podCastro Valley residents once displayed. Then this month a nice new illuminated sign at a burger joint got taken down not by the city, but by the county that supplies services to us. What ended up happening is we threw a little fit. Now we all feel much closer as a city. Funny how that works. All because of a freakin' sign. Cloggin' up the scenery and messin' my mind!

Tomorrow is the inauguration and what a different world we live in from 2009 when he last inaugurated President Obama. There's was a lot of hope that day, remember? Even hard core FOX neocons were letting him have his day. And then the battle began. Even though there was a mostly Democratic congress there were still battles and they only increased once the reversal of the House in 2010. What have we learned? It ain't easy being President, and his opposition is becoming more and more extreme with a 1950's America mentality. Where do these young t-party people, younger than me, get off on being so old-minded? I'm apparently not watching enough 700 club or reruns of Leave It To Beaver. I will celebrate tomorrow because if Obama has taught us anything it is to have hope in your country on Inauguration Day. That's quite patriotic.

Today I ate some amazing St. Louis style ribs at this bbq place in Livermore and I must tell you it was one of the most enjoyable moments of my life sitting with my wife and her dad. We had such a good time and they served me a huge mason jar of sweet tea. Sweet tea in California. Oh how it brought back everything I love about the South. We had such a great time and that's such a nice part of the town of Livermore. So nice so nice so nice. You know they split atoms in Livermore? Grapes too. What a town!

Today I review a movie and though my opinion means nothing, I find it interesting when I hear opposing view points. I heard some people reviewing this same movie and they came at it from a completely different perspective. Don't you love that? So many people in this world. We are anything but homogeneous. We all have fantastic independent opinions, yet it's impossible to figure out how some people arrive at theirs.

So today I poke fun at a musician that I was supposed to interview yesterday but she was a no-show. Making cioppino today for the very first time! My wife found a recipe and we're doing it. It features a rue made over eight hours in a crock pot. We're inviting over some family members so it should be a fun Sunday night. Hopefully it's edible. If not, we're going to raid the local Thai restaurant. Always have a good back up plan!

Got up early today to get my favorite apple fritters of all the world that are made at a little doughnut shop in PodCastro Valley, CA. If you don't get there early, they're gone by 9am. If you don't eat the fritter, then you don't get the 1000 calories. If you don't get the calories then you retain your girlish figure. You see it's a vicious circle.
