Yesterday I took BART from PodCastro Valley to San Francisco and then took the Sausalito ferry from the Embarcadero and then 2 buses to Mill Valley.  All told it was about 2 hours of traveling, but I didn't have to slam on the brakes once and I did see an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the ferry boat.  All in all it was a fun short day of travel and I got to meet some interesting people along the way.  Lots of tourists ride the Sausalito ferry and they're generally pretty nice.  I got half price on the ferry ride since I used my Clipper card which you need to set up for use on the ferry by going online.  I remember it took me a while to set it up, but so far it's been working great.  And that's the Mike Matthews Travel Blog.  Enjoy your day!

So I have discovered the workout called "Burpees."  I don't know if that's how you spell it, but I like that spelling so I'm going with it.  Burpees are doing the dropping on the floor from the standing position and doing a push-up then jumping up in the air and clapping.  Since I do it in my living room and I'm 6 foot 1 I just touch the ceiling and don't clap.  At this point, I can only do 5 at a time and I'm pretty winded, but I do it as part of a bunch of other exercises so I end up doing three sets of five burpees.  I know those Crossfit people do about 80 other exercises like that so this is my first dipping my little toe in the extreme exercise "pool" to see the temperature.  Maybe some day I'll go the full crossfit fanatic.  Till then, a couple burpees for me!

Wow, the past couple days have flown by.  I have taken excursions to Berkeley and to Alameda Island.  Wednesday I walked around U.C. Berkeley and explored parts of the campus I've never seen before.  Yesterday I went to the Pinball Museum in Alameda where I played pinball machines for three plus hours.  I particularly enjoyed the Doctor Who Pinball Machine.  It must have been made in the late 80's since it only features the first seven doctors.  But it has sounds and characters from the old show that pop up throughout the game.  Of course they also have a bunch of old machines there, too; back when pinball was considered something more like a slot machine.  More of a game of chance not skill.  I think life is like a pinball machine.  So much stuff is out of our control.  You sometimes just have to let the ball go down the middle past the flippers.  So sad.

I have just found out that this show is no longer in the Podomatic top 20 for News and Politics.  So sad.  We had a good run of being in the top 20 for 3 days.  All good things must come to an end.  Next time I'll savor the success more.  By the way, nobody gives a hoot about this.  I tried posting about this on my facebook and nobody commented or liked.  My facebook friends are so freakin' fallow.  God, I want a bunch of new friends.  Why can't I have the friends that made Gotye and Carly Rae Jepson successes?  Oh yeah, because I'm not a cute twenty year old with Beiber hair.  Oh well, say luh vee.

Oh the beauty that pervades the beaches of the Bay Area this time of year when it's sunny but slightly cool.  Oh the pain of freezing my feet off as I walk in the surf.  It took about 20 minutes before the numbness went away as I drank a nice stout beer at the Beach Chalet across from Ocean Beach.  Fun times for a Saturday night.  And I got there from PodCastro Valley completely using public transportation.  No gas was involved.
