Divorce is never pretty.  But it's generally at least a little better if you can stay friends with your ex.  That requires some compromise, as if you were still married.  It requires the normal effort that's involved in any friendship.  And it definitely brings with it some surreal moments.  My ex-wife apparently now hates malls.  I can't tell you how many hours I spent waiting for her in malls all across this country as she shopped and browsed.  Now she hates them.  And we're divorced.  Maybe all that mall time was not for nothing.  No, it was for nothing.
