My Labor Day Weekend has begun in an interesting way.  We look at that and then look away really quick because we heard that cheesy late 80's Chicago song "Look Away"...baby look away.  Then we laugh at ourselves because we remember 80's songs and then we realize we chose a career in radio back then so that sort of goes with the territory.  Then we break for tea.

I'm getting a little tired of noisy vehicles.  I live on a street where 2 buses going either way pass by at the beginning of each hour during the week.  There is a wealth of big pickup truck driving people in PodCastro Valley that roar by and shake my windows constantly.  If I'm standing outside trying to have a conversation I get drowned out by gas guzzling monstrosities.  Enough about air pollution.  I say let's combat noise pollution!  Damn I'm old.

I must admit I've posted one or two pictures of myself on my podcast's website and my facebook (the name of which begs one to actually post their face from time to time).  I have not had any facial hair for over a year now, and PEOPLE STILL ARE SURPRISED when they see I've shaved it all off.  They have no excuse, they're my facebook friends.  They don't think I'm important enough to ever look at my timeline.  Or facebook has decided I don't post anything interesting enough to put into other people's news feeds.  Either way, I think I've wasted more than my quota of words over this subject and I'll just finish by writing...another Iceland volcano.  Wow.

The bed shook a little last night.  That's all I remember of the Napa Earthquake this morning.  My dog, Basil the Boxer, didn't even move.  Yeah, we were lucky.  That was a pretty big earthquake.  Not so lucky are the fans of Doctor Who as today we wander about scratching our heads wondering what we saw last night.  What a horrible debut!  We talk more about it on today's show.

I had two tacos from Jack in the Box today.  It was the last of a free gift certificates I got from going to a San Jose Earthquakes soccer game a couple weeks ago.  They scored a couple times in the last part of the game so they give out these certificates when that happens.  It made me wonder, Why the hell do they call a hamburger fast food place Jack in the Box?  The answer may surprise you.  Or not.  All will be revealed on this show, but please keep the ice buckets away.  There's a drought going on.

People are so dang strange.  I'm walking Basil the Boxer today and he decides to lay down next to a nice lady who said hi and wanted to pet him.  A guy walks out of the building she was sitting next to and the lady says, "Look at this sweet dog who's decided to lay down next to me."  The man then looked like his family had just been killed in the the London Blitz by the Nazi's in 1940 (sorry, I've been watching lots of Foyle's War lately).  What the hell was his problem?

Giving blood.  I have not had the best experiences doing it.  Today was an example of that.  Of course, giving four vials may have had something to do with it.  That and not having eaten in 12 hours.  In any case I didn't pass out but came very close with all the sweating one would see Howie Mandel do in a room full of unwashed hands reaching out to shake.

Or...
I had a splendid time camping with Robert Owen Welsh of WELSH ON THE WORLD this past weekend.  His parents are simply wonderful and we had fun letting the dogs run on the beach even though Bodega Bay has a strict "no dog on beach" policy.  What's with all the rules, California?  Are we teetering that close to chaos that we have to put up signs, signs, everywhere a sign?  And fines, fines, oh my god the fines!  287 dollars as I have mentioned before for having a dog off leash here in the East Bay!  I went to court and fought it and BOTH POLICE OFFICERS showed up to defend the ticket.  Is that what we're all about California?  Are we like Republicans after all?  The party of "no".  Are we the state of "no"?

Gray.  All us men eventually go gray.  Oh, I guess women do too which is sexy but not too many women do anymore.  Men will color their hair if they're in show biz or if they're vain as hell.  I decided to do the "scorched earth" method: I shaved off my goatee and all my head hair.  Not that there was much head hair to spare, but I have beat gray except for on my chest.  I have a snowy forest there.  What's this have to do with travel?  Nothing, unless you're visiting a snowy forest here in the middle of August.  Good luck with that.

Robin Williams was so instrumental in making talk shows interesting again.  He would show up on the Tonight Show and everyone would realize that this is what we had all been starving for.  His stream of conscious rantings made you see fast edited movies and over the top Broadway musicals.   Yet he was one man.  Disney tried to animate him in Aladdin: they could barely keep up.  Talk show hosts loved him.  We loved him.  Thank you, Robin, for going everywhere your creative mind took you from stand-up to movies to an occasional sit com along the way.  We are all saddened you are no longer there to make us smile.

Today we hear from Madame Rootabega, Valentino, and Bison Bentley, PLUS it's the FINALE of my INTO AN INTERVIEW with the band THE BANNER DAYS with BRADFORD LOOMIS and BETH WHITNEY!

Oh things are a'busy here in PodCastro Valley!  Things are a'foot and thing are under a'way as I hear sledge hammers up the street making me want to sing a Peter Gabriel song.  The drought is making people tear out their lawns and put in drought resistant plants basically telling the 1950's manicured lawns to go jump in a lake.  A'las there are no lakes left in California.  A tear rolls down my face, had I any water to spare.

I have realized now that my singing voice is pretty limited.  I would like to thank Kevin Cronin for that.  You could say that I have "Cronin's Disease."  You could say that if you're completely insensitive to those afflicted with the much worse disease that hopefully someday they will find a cure to that sounds similar to the one that was supposed to be a joke in the sentence previous.  In any case, Kevin Cronin is the lead singer of REO Speedwagon, which might have been handy information had I told you that before, and if you've heard "Take It On the Run" or "Keep On Lovin' You" you know he can hit those high notes.  I can't.  Thus my bloggeth endeth.

Today we hear from Chely Shoehart, Floyd the Floorman, and John Deer the Engineer, PLUS it's the return of the much loved segment DO YOU KNOW DAT? where we look at some interesting, bizarre things going on today in the world of film and the arts.

The other night I found myself on Wikipedia looking up Magic Mountain.  That is an amusement park I went to quite a few time during my childhood and teen years in Southern California.  Strangely enough, though I moved twice while I lived there, I was always equidistant from Magic Mountain.  If you put a pin in my first home in the San Fernando Valley, and then another pin in Ventura, you could draw a straight line to Magic Mountain that would be about the same distance, and the hypotenuse would be the same, too.  I don't remember jack s@*# about geometry.

Divorce is never pretty.  But it's generally at least a little better if you can stay friends with your ex.  That requires some compromise, as if you were still married.  It requires the normal effort that's involved in any friendship.  And it definitely brings with it some surreal moments.  My ex-wife apparently now hates malls.  I can't tell you how many hours I spent waiting for her in malls all across this country as she shopped and browsed.  Now she hates them.  And we're divorced.  Maybe all that mall time was not for nothing.  No, it was for nothing.

I went to the new Levi's Stadium, the new home for the San Francisco 49ers.  For one thing, it's all the way in San Jose.  For another, it's under an airport flight path.  For another another there are prices for food items that would make Donald Trump blush.  Not that he would ever blush.  I'm sure he uses blush.  Vain idiot.

Seriously, desperate for votes, jackass?
