The earth shook late Tuesday night
but all I noticed was that I don't sleep very lite
everyone noticed to my amazement
they talked about that and the crack in the Washington monument
that being said I have to change our heading
I'm going to fly north for an awesome wedding
that means no podcast till I come back
I'll have one up Wednesday if you're keeping track
I'm dj-ing the wedding on Saturday and I might be playing my music on Sunday
I'm going to hit an open mic Sunday night

So I upset someone with my podcast yesterday
It was over something I said about Ventura way
I said Venturan's feet bottoms are harder
and that ticked off Pam Baumgardner
She comments on every facebook post I post
if I knock Ventura that ticks her off the most
all I was saying on Ventura beaches there are big rocks
so what's wrong saying that Ventura beaches rock?
I lived there for the bulk of my life so I can say whatever I want about that place, dammit!
so let's hear it for the Ventura beaches
and all the Venturan beach goers sore feetses!

I saw a band last night
they were really out of sight
you'll get to hear them on my show
it won't be till next Wednesday though
they are called The Wilderness of Manitoba
and they are from Toronto not Arizona
they harmonize nice with rich folk tunes
makes you want to catch a whale with a big harpoon
wait a minute, Canadians don't do that, do they?  Whales are sweet big things.  Love them.
My wife and I went San Francisco
it was Cafe Du Nord in the Castro...cool place!

I'm back from my weekend trip to Ventura
I miss the town and its strange culture obscura
it was interesting to walk in downtown
though much of what I remembers not around
they say you can't really ever go home
but for a moment it feels like you can with the memories you own
then that feeling quickly goes away
after a 6 hour drive that takes up most the day
it takes 5 cd's and 2 podcasts to get back up to the Bay Area...not my podcasts...too short
but it's great to be back home with my boxer named Basil
he was so happy to see us and it was worth the hassle!

So tomorrow I will head in a car
6 hours south down to Ventura and Oxnard
I won't be there for long when I go
I should spend a week to see everyone I know
Ventura was a great place you couldn't hate
I lived there for ten years straight
in the downtown area just by the ocean
does anyone remember performer Billy Ocean?
he was from Trinidad
so I got to get to packing and can't be lazy
then drive down highway five and hope I don't go crazy!

So last night I watched a concert movie
on netflix and it was really groovy
it was the band that is known simply as Yes
and it was the early 80's when they didnt' look their best
they were wearing clothes from Frankie Goes to Hollywood
yet they were rocking out and sang their 70's stuff good
but since it was early 80's they kept cutting to computer graphics
which was hip and new then but annoying they relied on those tricks
if you show me a concert, I want to see the musicianship, not how much money you spent on the production
so to those of you who know Owner of Lonely Heart
maybe watch this movie or go toast a poptart

So we watched a movie from long ago
when Winona Ryer's eyes were still like a doe
it was directed by Ben Stiller
it's called Reality Bites and it's a killer
killer if you mean it kills a bunch of your time
unless you like to see the 90's from a slacker frame of mind
of when it was okay to overuse your daddy's gas card
and home movies meant VHS tape and working with that was hard
not as easy as today when you can film a movie using your cellphone
Most of the music was from World Party I liked back then
and that Lisa Loeb song we never want to hear again.

So last night my wife and I drove about 20 miles
to the little quaint historic Downtown Niles
we went to a silent movie theater for a party
where we saw Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Laurel and Hardy
the movies were accompanied by a live pianist
I said to my wife "I've never seen anything like this"
there was a museum that made the past come alive
like the History Channel and it only cost dollars five
Yes, I'm talking in reverse just like Yoda.  Where the hell's my lightsaber?
So that was a fun way to spend an evening
the only thing better is a little more comfortable seating.

Blockbuster video as they go the way of the dinosaur
One of the last one's is here in the Valley of Castro
it's about to be vacated to make room for reused clothes
A Goodwill thriftstore is supposed to move in
so Blockbuster is done and Netflix wins
though when Netflix went and raised their rates last time
blockbuster offered a cheaper plan online
Netflix is like 17.00 a month and Blockbuster is like 12.00 a month.  Does Blockbuster have enough streaming movies?
We once paid Blockbuster 50 bucks for a late fee
the movie was sitting for a week under the car seat

Today we hear from Benita the Rodeoqueen, the Disgruntled Fiddle Player, and the Brewmaster, plus we have more of our interview with the band NUSHU and singer/songwriter Hillary Burton!

So sad to hear the news today
a former lead singer has passed away
only 47 years the lead vocalist
of the band Warrant will be missed
He sang "heaven isn't too far away"
and then "She's my cherry pie" oh vay
Warrant appealed to the guys and ladies
and were a big hair band in the late 80's
then in 1990 they had that song "and I saw red when I opened up the door"...I liked that
that song was part long song part cheating song
for him to die song young is so very wrong
and what the heck's a downboy?

sounds a little fishy don't it that he'd plead the fifth
then it come out he's actually dating Jennifer Love Hewitt!  What?
who hasn't Jennifer dated please tell me
why she goes for guys that are freshly on tv

So my friend from when I was a kid, okay
is having his birthday today hurray
He had it the same day as my Grandma
and one year they were together for the same hurrah
my Grandma lived in Germany and we went
one summer in the eighties and that's where we spent
their two birthdays on the same day in a tiny little town
with people from the village stopping by to party down
partying down was cake.  Lots of different cakes.  Did I mention the cakes?
so when this day comes around I think of that day
my German grandmother and my American friend with the same birthday

So yesterday I barbecued
I like that verb so that's why it's used
And we went to put the extra buns away
in our bread box and guess what was inside that place?
A couple biscuits from a month ago
they were green as leprechauns with nowhere to go
so we threw them out and it got me thinking
that bread boxes are useless and completely stinking
I mean, if you have a hang up about cold bread, then I guess the box is your route
if you don't mind your bread cold and better
you can have a loaf last forever!

So my wife borrowed from her dad a power washer
it sounds really weird like an outrageous flying saucer
it gets the dirt off all your stuff outside
then leaves a big water bill that makes you cry
Our yard is really starting to come together
we had a dust bowl and now it's so much better
with a grass lawn and one happy dog now
oh that's right, we have only one now, how?
the one from my wife's brother-in-law went BACK to my wife's brother-in-law due to issues
maybe it had to do with it's digging up the lawn
anyone want a 2 year old boxer that's fawn?

So I've seen the first two show of Project Runway
I watched with my wife and I have to say
I don't know how they design those clothes
I have trouble designing rhyming prose
This week the red head stayed on and by the way
She learned never agree with what the judges say
When you get criticism from them you should think outside the box
tell them they're full of crap and have way too much botox
Tim Gunn does all the work on that show.  He says "make it work" and he does most of it...
While Heidi Klum appears at just the beginning an end
Shouldn't she earn the paycheck she gets?

So now we officially have no tv set
the last one we had died so we just forget
last night at my in-law's house we saw
some real tv and it left me in awe
for example, I'm all for gay rights
but what the hell?  Glee?  Why waste your Thursday nights
on a show that's an insult to all theater geeks
I guess it's the whole Glee fever right now and mystique
What about COP ROCK? Or FAME? Or pick any of the SOUTH PARK musical episodes?
So my tv's going to the local thrift store
and I'm not gonna watch crap anymore!

Today we hear from Valentino the Parking Attendant, Bison Bentley, and Madame Rootabega as well as bring you another effizode of MIKE's SCAVENGER HUNT!

Tomorrow we hear from Chely Shoehart our Giftshop Supervisor, Floyd the Floorman, and John Deer the Engineer.  Chely watches Glee, but the rest are Glee-less.  Don't fee bad for them.

So today I get a massage
It happens once every 2 years and not in a garage
Any stress that's in back
will go out somewhere and not come back
Some people aren't made to get massage you can infer this
they don't like it when other people touch their epidermis
I don't mind as long as it's not a male masseuse
it can be a strange experience and "Jerry, it moved."
so I'm doing this podcast now before I become a huge pile of jello.

I was busy with going on a hiking trip

So today is August first
that means we're enjoying Summer thirst
so we get ice tea and swim trunks thar
and we fall into a pool backwards
August is the month I usually hated
because as a kid it meant my summer days were dated
and then September is the biggest month of bummers
it's the end of sunburns it's the end of summer
and then buying clothes to go back to school in.  Clothes that I never liked.  Dang Catholic dress codes.
So as I wear my t-shirt that lists one hundred and tharty
Here's to August and may it be a party!
